Also have one more ??? while I am here. I have a few "no pictures found" in my buil and buy modes. They were there befor I started adding content. Any one know why or how to fix?
Thank you for all of your help. You all are great with this stuff..Glad your out here..

There are 3 Maxis made collage tows to go with the 3 pre-made towns. If you go upto the top of your screen you will see a row of buttons. There is a different button for each expansion. If you have the different expansions installed it will be clickable. After you click it it will give you a new screen that will allow you to pick one of the pre-mades or create a completely blank neighborhood. That is what it sounds like you did.

As far as getting other Dorms or collage buildings, you will need to either build them yourself just like you do houses or you can download them. MTS2 and Inseminator both have a few and I am sure there are others out there. Just search those sites and use the search term of Dorm. If they have any that should find them. I built one collage town on a blank neighborhood one time and swore I would not do that again for a long time, because it takes forever to get everything set up. It might not be so bad if there were more community lots that would fit in with a collage town but if they are out there I haven't found them.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the help

Howls Alasdair,
I see what you are talking about. So when I build a collage town do I have to build where they (students) go to class or just where they live?

If your building from scratch you will have to build almost everything. You won't need to worry about classrooms because going to class is just like when Adult sims go to work and Child sims go to school. Your college students will leave the lot to go to class and then reappear when class is over.

The main thing you'll need to build are the houses and Dorms they live in, but also you'll need to have some community lots for them to shop and buy stuff from. Plus you'll need to have a secret society lot, but that one is kind of difficult to do since you can't see it. You'll also need a couple of greek houses.

Here is the cheat code that you type in so that they work like they are supposed to:

Enter the lot through the houses tab and once the lot loads activate the cheat window and enter the following(highlighted and one of the red words):

The cheat is changelotzoning dorm (for dormitory)
Likewise you can use greek/residential/community/secretsociety for the other types of lot.

Just change the red words to fit the lot you want

Now hit enter. Save the lot and exit to the neighborhood. Now the next time you enter that lot it will be zoned to whatever you changed it.

The reason I suggested you get familiar with the Maxis dorms is because dorms need to be set up with certain items and ways for them to function properly. The kitchen Dining area is the only place that requires this. You have to use the shinytop stove and the Myne Table or the cook won't show up and work. Plus you have to use the island counters between the stove and the tables. You only need to use this setup in your university towns because that is the only place they show up, though there are a couple of hacked ones that work on residential lots.

I hope this will help you some, if not ask me some more questions and I'll try to find the right answers. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this and I'll try to do better next time

I was looking for another tutorial that went more in depth but it has disappeared in MTS2's last housecleaning, I guess. I'll keep looking because I know there has to be an easier way to create custom hoods. If I find them I will post the links here. Mainly so I can keep everything in one place. I don't make it over here to often, I spend most of my time on the main site. I use the same ID over there too.

EDIT: 11/07/08 I stumbled across the link to the build mode enable tutorial I was originally looking for. You can find it HERE.
