Sims1 neighbourhoods replacing 'hoods I wanted to get rid of a few neighbourhoods because I had trouble with them (certain houses kept crashing, the game would get stuck... that sort of thing). So, I took unplayed neighbourhoods from one PC and copied them to the PC I'm playing on... result: the game won't load at all. I don't have any double names or anything. Does anybody have an idea what I did wrong? I don't want to do the re-install dance, I really don't...
I'd really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!

Ok, what exactly did you copy and from what to the other? There are a number of things thast can contribute to this depending on what you copied, I'll try to give you a few examples to look at.....
1. If you copied just the lots, then it is possible one of them had something going on in the one gme that this game doesn't like.....
2. Objects in use, if something was in use in the other game you may not have it in yours or you may not even have that family.....
3. Skins in use, the one game may have been using skins on families that you don't have.....
4. Corrupt lots, it is possible you copied bad lot or that the copy itself created a bad lot.....
5. What operating system are the computers using, if the computers are not using the same system it may be having problems with the directories.....
6. The games don't have the same expansions (see note ate at end).....
So what can you do? This would be my recomenndation without more information:
1. Find an unused neighborhood in the other PC, make sure it isn't in use
2. Goto the userdata folder with the same number, neighborhood 3 is userdata3 for instance
3. Find just the houses folder in the userdata file, copy this for the other game to use (see note ate at end)
4. Neighborhood 1 can be touchy as all get out because of the tutorial house, copy it to iself to avoid problems (see note ate at end)
**NOTE** This is assuming you have the same expansions on both machines, if you do not this will not work well. You will need to copy each house number by hand, or you could have the problems your desribing.
Hope this at least gives you some ideas on where to start, any other questions just ask.

Thank you!
What I did was this: I copied neighbourhood 2 from my one PC, pasted into the other PC multiple times and then just renamed the copies userdata2, userdata3 and so forth.
Both PCs run XP, and the expansion packs are the same. As neighbourhood 2 is an unused 'hood, there shouldn't be any conflicts, should there?

The thing is that neighborhoods 1 and 2 have some preexisting things in them, so they can be touchy to use other than for thier own number. However, it sounds more like a skin, family or object conflict than anything else.
I would try it again with a different neighborhood and see if that helps, but by copying everything you copied all the family and in use information as well. This means if you don't have the exact same people in both games, and the exact same items; the game is getting lost.
If you have a safe neighborhood I would use that to get you up and running again, then try copying just the house folders to reset them the way you want.
Past that you may well be looking at a reinstall to clear whatever is causing the glitch.

I have a question, what neighborhood was the game last in before you started doing all this moving? Maybe the game is expecting a 'hood that doesn't exist anymore and it doesn't know what to do.

I know I'm a bit late with the answer, but if you want to do this in the future, download EliSims at http://www.elandnews.com/elisims/ , and follow its online help file.
The problem was a family lived in the house where one hadn't been created yet, thus the renaming problem (just to elaborate on what you already figured out).
The original trouble comes from an absent expansion pack from downloaded furnished housing.
Just evict the current family to play.
